How to Find your Perfect Wedding Ring

Choosing your wedding bands is an exciting and important part of your wedding preparations. But like everything wedding related, it requires a little planning to ensure you find your ideal match. While so much focus is put on the engagement ring, the wedding bands can sometimes be an afterthought.

However, remember these rings will play a big part in your big day and will be worn for the rest of your lives, so they are quite an important purchase. Here are our top tips to help you find your perfect wedding ring.

Start Planning Early

Start thinking about your wedding rings as early as you can. A great place to start your search is online. Pulling together ideas and styles you like will really help narrow down your search when you go trying on rings. Set your budget, think about what style you both want, and take into consideration time frames for bespoke piece and special orders, which could take a number of months, and sizing and engraving which could take a matter of weeks. For brides, if you are wearing an engagement ring, consider whether you’ll need a shaped wedding ring? Perhaps you have an idea in mind that you want brought to life with a custom-made ring?  Generally, couples begin planning their weddings a year in advance, so why not book an appointment with one of our experts so we can advise you.

Budget

This is a key consideration, and something that is personal to each couple. When looking at your overall wedding expenditure, bear in mind that your wedding rings will be worn every day for the rest of your lives, so budget accordingly! Prices will be dictated by metal, and the weight of metal in the ring and size and quality of diamonds.

Metal

Here in Ireland, 18ct gold and platinum are used to set precious stones, so most engagement rings will be crafted in these metals. A general rule of thumb is to always match your metals- so if you’re wearing a platinum engagement ring you’ll match it with a platinum wedding band. For grooms, or those not wearing an engagement ring, there is a great selection of rings on offer in various metals from 9ct gold, 18ct gold, platinum, to palladium, to suit your preference, budget and lifestyle. Be aware of how hard-wearing the metal you select is and what is involved in maintaining it.

Finding your Perfect Match

Consider your metal, your style and whether you want diamonds. Will you need a shaped ring to sit with your engagement ring? A wedding ring should enhance an engagement ring, not detract from it; match your diamonds both in terms of colour, quality and setting, create a perfectly balanced look by matching the width of both rings. Choose a diamond set band to complement your engagement ring or keep it simple and pared back with a classic polished band.

A great tip is when you are buying your engagement ring, or shortly after you get it if you were surprised with it, check if there is a matching wedding ring available.

It’s helpful to take into consideration your lifestyle when choosing your rings. Will you be able to wear your wedding ring at work? Do you play lots of sports? Will you wear the wedding ring on it's own perhaps?
